Reaching for Resilience:

Helping Your Child Build A Pathway Toward Resiliency

School, family, friends and social media are just a few of the things that your teen may be juggling with most days, especially during the school year. Helping your teen cope with these things involves teaching them how to be more resilient. Building resilience in teens involves developing their ability to bounce back from challenges and setbacks that school, family issues, their friends, and social media may cause. By helping your teen focus on coping with stress, developing a growth mindset, and learning to ‘retrain their brain’ to be more resilient, they will likely develop more confidence, competence and a sense of control over their lives, while also learning to seek support when they need it. The National Family Resiliency Center (NFRC) is here for your teen on every step of their journey through a program especially designed for them called Reaching for Resilience. The Parent Connection part of this program will provide parents with information on how they can be supportive and helpful to their teen as they build this pathway toward resiliency.

What is the Reaching for Resilience program all about?

Reaching for Resilience is a two-session, virtual program for tweens and teens, ages 12 and above. Tweens and teens will have an opportunity to:

  • Identify and talk about their stress triggers and learn how to reduce those stressors

  • Learn about the four types of resilience and some important skills to build resiliency

  • Explore mindset beliefs and begin to understand how their mindset shapes how they make sense of the world and themselves

  • Learn how to identify negative thinking patterns and replace them with positive other thoughts

  • Practice four tools for learning to ‘train their brain’ to be more resilient

What is the Parent Connection part of Reaching for Resilience about?

After each session with the teens, the parents are invited to attend a brief Parent Connection session where they will first hear all about what their teen has just learned.

Then the session will provide parents with some tools and strategies which will help their teen as they build a pathway toward resiliency. Parents will also be provided with a

list of resources and books that may be helpful in supporting their teen.

Cost: $50 for the first teen; $25 for additional teens in the same family.

Cost includes supporting program materials which will be sent a few days before your selected session directly to your registered email.
