KidShare and TeenShare
Educational Programs After more than 18 years, NFRC remains a place where children are understood, where children are heard, and where children have a voice.
And while divorce can bring with it a tidal wave of monumental change, raw emotion, complex situations and difficult choices, NFRC is here to make sure that the impact on children is not overlooked in the process. A critical step is helping children to better understand divorce, because only then can they learn ways to share and process their feelings in an appropriate way. NFRC provides this support to children through its series of educational programs for children and young adults.
Realizing that we couldn’t reach all children through therapy, and based upon the request of parents and professionals, our staff developed an educational seminar for children to assist them in better understanding the changes in their family and learning basic skills to help them cope. These educational programs provide children aged 6 to 18 with a foundation of understanding that will assist them in adjusting to their new family structures even if more in-depth counseling is not readily available or provided to them.
NFRC’s educational programs for children are divided into two groups—KidShare for children ages 6 through 11, and TeenShare for teenagers ages 12 through 18.
During this two session educational program, children and teens participate in activities and group discussion designed to help them learn:
- The realities of divorce
- The difference between changes that are within their control and those that are not
- Coping skills to address divorce-related changes, and
- Positive and constructive communication patterns and thought processes
