Adult Children of Divorce Group
A whole generation of adult children of divorce is just now discovering that support and guidance is available for them. At NFRC, that support is available through our Adult Children of Divorce Group Therapy sessions.
It may be hard to believe, but providing therapeutic support to children of divorce is a relatively new concept. In fact, NFRC remains an innovator in comprehensive programs and educational efforts not only for child-focused decision-making, but also in the care and attention they provide to adults who experienced the painful process of divorce as children—yet have received little to no support in healing those wounds.
NFRC’s Adult Children of Divorce Groups address the varying needs of adults who are still experiencing the pain of something that happened years ago.
Groups meet for 1 hour and 30 minutes each week over a period of 10 weeks, with activities and discussion focusing on learning to cope with past unresolved losses and how those related emotions are affecting their lives and relationships today.
The curriculum and framework of the groups allow adult children of divorce to:
- Come to a personal resolution with their parents’ divorce (no matter how many years have passed)
- Release and face unresolved issues and deeply internalized emotions related to the divorce
- Become conscious of how these harbored emotions are affecting their own relationships
- Learn communication and relationship-building skills to enhance current and future relationships with family, friends, and partners
